I love het, slash, and femmeslash, myself. Gen is likely my very favorite, though. I'm all over the map. For FF, I have a few pet het couples (Terra/Edgar, Cloud/Tifa, Yuffie/Vincent, Zack/Aerith, Seifer/Quistis, Laguna/Raine, Ashe/Balthier, Lightning/Everyone), but I'm the same as you. I tend to write more slash. For me, it's not just that the story is told, but also that I don't feel comfortable writing women in sexual situations. It feels like exposing myself or something. Hard to explain. Putting it through the filter of two men makes me feel much more protected. Plus, explaining away canon and making AUs is half the fun of fandom, I say!
Wow, so Dragon Age got you in! I didn't even know that one had a fandom. XD But don't feel bad. I started writing fanfic in 1999, and I'm like a lost babe in the FF fandom, so. I've done my tour of duty in other fandoms already.
